Post titleUS officials believe Michael Jackson's mother Katherine is safe

US officials believe Michael Jackson's mother Katherine is safe - after she was reported missing by one member of her family.

Her nephew Trent Jackson reported her absence on Saturday night amid a dispute over the estate of her superstar son.

A person familiar with Katherine Jackson's whereabouts said she was staying with her daughter Rebbie in Arizona, where she was following a doctor's orders to rest.

Sheriff's officials later said they believed the 82-year-old was indeed in Arizona with a relative, but they had yet to establish direct contact with her.

Katherine Jackson's whereabouts have caused concern for some family members in recent days, and her granddaughter Paris Jackson issued a frantic plea on Twitter early Sunday.

"I haven't spoken with her in a week I want her home now," she tweeted. She also posted a number for people to contact in case they saw her grandmother.

Katherine Jackson had also lost contact with her lawyers, who were trying to find out why she had suddenly become incommunicado with both them and her grandchildren.

The mystery of her whereabouts was compounded by a recent visit from her son's former doctor, Allan Metzger, according to lawyer Sandy Ribera.

Mr Ribera said Mr Metzger examined her on July 14 after being brought to her home in Calabasas by someone close to the family.

The visit came a day before Katherine Jackson was scheduled to leave on a road trip to watch her sons perform - a trip she never took.

Mr Metzger is not Katherine Jackson's primary doctor - and her regular GP was not aware of his house call until concerns about her whereabouts had been raised, Mr Ribera said
